Biography

Dr. Ushalakshmi Krishnamoorthi began her musical training at the tender age of 5.  She had her initial training from Shri K. A. Venkatesan chief disciple of Alathur Brothers and later Shri M. Rajappa of Mumbai. While located in Bombay, she won the coveted T.V.Ramanujam Tambura prize in 1973 and also won a gold medal from Bharathiya Music and Fine Arts Society, Bombay for Pancharatna Kritis. She also won several prizes in Music Academy Competitions, including the Pallavi prize in 1977.

Dr Ushalakshmi was awarded the Government of India scholarship during the years 1975 & 1976, since then the innovative Carnatic musician T.R.Subramanyam has been her guide. She did Siromani and M.A(Music) from Delhi University and secured gold medals. She has also done MPhil & Ph.D. in Music.

She has given many concerts to rave reviews in Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Hyderabad, Bangalore to name a few. She has also performed in the USA, Singapore and Dubai. She performed in the Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana in 2010.She recently performed in the Sri Annamacharya Aradhana in Pittsburg. She has performed in many sabhas including Indian Fine Arts Society, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha, Bangalore Gayana Samaj and many more.

Smt. Ushlakshmi is an AIR A grade artist and has performed on many occasions on AIR and TV.

She currently resides in Chennai and visits the USA often.
